Consumer Reports: Surprising Effectiveness of Tai Chi for Preventing Falls

July 24, 2017 -
Consumer Reports, the non-profit publication dedicated to unbiased product testing, consumer-oriented research, public education, and advocacy, published an article about Tai Chi for preventing falls today.

The strong interest from the readers in its article about Tai Chi for back pain earlier this year has motivated the publication to continue to report the health benefits from Tai Chi. Then this month, a meta-analysis published by the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society about Tai Chi for preventing falls presented a new interesting angle to the publication.

"Most surprising: the results suggest that tai chi worked better than other approaches such as physical therapy, balance training, resistance exercises, stretching, or yoga", says Teresa Carr, the author of the Consumer Reports article.

As they did for the Tai Chi for back pain article earlier this year, Consumer Reports interviewed ATCQA for this one about preventing falls. You can read this new Consumer Reports article at http://www.consumerreports.org/exercise-fitness/to-prevent-falls-try-tai-chi/.

For the meta-analysis about Tai Chi for preventing falls just published by the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, ATCQA members and certified instructors/practitioners can read its full content on ATCQA website: Sign in your ATCQA account and then click the link for "Study Materials".
